Citizenship

Congratulations on your first step of considering becoming an Australian citizen. By becoming an Australian citizen, you will enjoy the privileges and bear responsibilities of an Australian citizen.

Australian citizenship can be obtained by decent, adoption, birth or conferral. For each of the Australian citizenship pathway, an applicant must satisfy strict criteria to be approved as an Australian citizen.

Australian citizenship by conferral is the most popular way of obtaining Australian citizenship for those who hold Australian permanent visas. An applicant for Australian citizenship by conferral must meet general eligibility criteria such as permanent residency, residency requirement, good character, knowledge of Australia, proof of intention to reside in Australia or maintain close and continuing association with Australia and pass the Australian citizenship test. A valid application must be lodged with the Department of Home Affairs to initiate the process.  The Department charges a fee to assess the application.

Whilst there is no legal requirement for an applicant to have legal representation, seeking advice from a migration lawyer ensures that your citizenship application is prepared accurately and completely, and your application meets the relevant criteria.

With a deep understanding of Australian migration laws, we are committed to helping you experience a smooth transition from permanent residency to Australian citizenship.
